Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra has resumed the fifth day of its journey from Assam’s Shivsagar. Gandhi resumed his journey in a bus from Tuli in Nagaland in the early morning and reached Assam around 9:45 am. He was received by hundreds of party workers at Haluwating, where the national flag was handed over to Assam Congress leaders for the eight-day journey in the state.
The Assam leg of the Yatra will be spread over eight days starting today i.e. 18 January and will cover 17 districts of Assam and a distance of 833 km. Rahul Gandhi tweeted a live video from the Yatra.
Speaking at the National Flag handover Ceremony in Haluwating, Rahul Gandhi said, “We started the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra from Manipur, and will continue till Maharashtra. This yatra not only aims to unite every religion and caste in India but also give ‘nyay’. We have added ‘nyay’ to the name of this yatra because we feel that the BJP and RSS have done a lot of injustice – social, economic and political – to people of the nation.”
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi began the ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ from Manipur’s Thoubal district on 14 January, Sunday. The 6,713 kilometers yatra will culminate in Mumbai and will be largely covered by bus with 60-70 yatris accompanying Rahul Gandhi. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge will flag off the ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ at 12:00 PM today and the party is hoping that the march will revive its fortunes ahead of the Lok Sabha elections 2024.
