Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who is on an indefinite hunger strike since November 26, has appealed to farmers to reach the Khanauri protest site at the Punjab-Haryana border in large numbers on Saturday to strengthen the fight seeking a legal guarantee on the minimum support price (MSP) for crops.
Earlier on Friday, in a 70-second video message released, Dallewal said he is appealing to the people of the country, who are part of the fight for a legal guarantee on the MSP, “that they must reach Khanauri as I want to have your darshan”.
This sets stage for a massive ‘kisan mahapanchayat’ at Khanauri today, with farmer leaders expecting a gathering of nearly one lakh people, predominantly from farming communities across Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan, to converge at the protest site on the Punjab-Haryana border.
The event has garnered significant attention as it coincides with the 40th day of an indefinite fast by Samyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-political) leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal. On Friday, the 70-year-old leader appealed to farmers to gather in large numbers at Khanauri to strengthen the agitation demanding a legal guarantee for the minimum support price (MSP) for crops.
Meanwhile, All India Kisan Congress, the farmer’s wing of the Congress Party, said that they would be holding a major protest march termed the ‘Kisan-Mazdoor Samman Evam Nyay Yatra ’ beginning from the 18th of January 2025 in Uttar Pradesh. This was arrived at after a meeting held by the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) on Friday led by the chairperson Ajay Rai. The meeting revolved around the arrangements for the proposed yatra and plans to execute the entire plan in the state.
The farmers, under the banner of Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, have been camping at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points between Punjab and Haryana since February 13 last year, after their march to Delhi was stopped by security forces.
