Saurashtra: At least 2 people died and 22 were left injured after cyclone Biparjoy made landfall in Gujarat’s coastal areas. Battering the state at a wind speed of around 115 kmph and leaving a trail of destruction, a very severe cyclonic storm has now weakened to a cyclonic storm. It shall continue to weaken its depression by June 16 as it processes over Pakistan and Rajasthan.
In an advisory, the India Meteorological Department has issued a red message for Saurashtra and Kutch Coasts wherein all fishing operations must be suspended. Offshore activities, port, and industrial activities and oil explorations shall be regulated today.
Cyclone Biparjoy which has already displaced 74000 people is set to make a landfall Thursday evening near Jakhau Port in Gujarat’s Kutch district. As cyclone approached the coastal region, Dwarkadish Temple in Devbhumi Dwarka and Somnath Temple shall remain closed for devotees. The temple authorities continued prayers inside the premises but the devotees have been prohibited from entering the premises.
NDRF has evacuated nearly 1 lakh people from Gujarat ahead of Biparjoy’s fall. NDRF has taken down 40000 hoardings and kept 15 teams in the north, east, and south of the country to airlift survivors. Besides, Gujarat chief minister has called for an emergency meeting to review the situation.
