India: Nearly 800 Orissa Disaster Rapid Action Force(ODRAF) personnel have been activated in view of the upcoming Cyclone YAAS.
Taking to their social media platform, the State Police made the announcement. The post on Twitter read, “more than 800 #ODRAF personnel with Tower lights, Searchlights, Gensets, JCBs, Hydra Cranes, inflatable boats, high-end hydraulic tree cutters, gas cutters, plasma cutters, Sat phones, and walkie talkie sets are in a high state of readiness to tackle Cyclone #YAAS.”
The tweet also informed,” 12 formations of ODRAF, apart from NDRF and Fire Services teams, as well as 12 platoons force have been deployed for pre/post-cyclone operations.”
Assistant Director General (ADG) Law and Order Y K Jethwa, IG ER, Collector Balasore, and SP Balasore visited Balasore and Bhadrak areas and reviewed the plans for evacuation and preparedness for post-cyclone rescue and recovery operations
As per the India Meteorological Department, Cyclone YAAS is expected to hit the coasts of Odisha and West Bengal on May 26. It reported the formation of a deep depression over East-central Bay of Bengal today morning intensified into Cyclonic Storm ‘Yaas’ and about 600 km of Port Blair. A Severe Cyclonic Storm is forecast during the next 24 hours which will subsequently convert into a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm.
