Kolkata: As the sea conditions are likely to be rough, IMD has issued an advisory asking the fishmermen, ships, trawlers, and small boats not to enter in the south-east Bay of Bengal and urged those in the region to return to coast.

A low-pressure area formed over the Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining South Andaman Sea on Monday is expected to intensify into a cyclone and move towards the Bangladesh-Myanma coast later this week.

According to IMD Director, General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, the low-pressure area is expected to concentrate into a depression by today evening and then intensify into a cyclonic storm by Wednesday.

“The low pressure area over Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining South Andaman Sea has become Well Marked Low Pressure Area over the same region at 0530 IST today, the 9th May 2023. it is very likely to intensify into a depression by today evening over the same region”, tweeted India Meteorological Department.

The weather department further predicted heavy rainfall over Andaman and Nicobar Islands with a squaly wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph. It shall become a cyclonic storm over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of East Central Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea on May 10.
