New Delhi: The Indian Met Department updating the cyclone Gulab’s status informed a deep depression over north Andhra and adjoining south Orissa moved westwards during the last 6 hours and lay centred at 5:30 am today morning over South Orissa and adjoining Andhra, about 110 lm south-SE of Jagdalpur in Chhattisgarh and 140 km from west-NW of Kalingapatnam (AP).
Chhattisgarh is expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall while its neighbouring state authorities have announced an alert and engaged officials for vigorous monitoring. Many trains in Andhra Pradesh have been delayed due to the incessant rains. In the last 24 hours, the state has reported the death of 2 fishermen from Srikakulam district informed state Fisheries Ministers S Appala Raju.
Nearly 39,000 individuals have been evacuated from low lying areas in Orissa before the cyclone made landfall. NDRF teams have been deployed for emergency situations and the Orissa state authorities have been directed to monitor stringently to avoid any untoward incident.
