Cyclone Ditwah weakened into a deep depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal, continued its path northwards at a speed of 10 kmph and is expected to weaken further into a depression by Monday noon, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

In the wake of the cyclonic storm, the Tamil Nadu government has kept around 38 disaster response teams, including SDRF and NDRF, on standby. All private and government-aided institutions across the four regions of Puducherry are closed on Monday (December 1), the union territory’s home and education minister A Namassivayam announced.

The holiday has been declared as a precautionary measure in view of heavy rains expected under the influence of cyclone Ditwah, the minister said in a release.

“The Deep Depression (Remnant of Cyclonic Storm Ditwah) over southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts moved northwards with the speed of 10 kmph during past 6 hours and lay centered at 2330 hrs IST of yesterday, the 30th  November 2025 over the same region, near latitude 12.3°N and longitude 80.6°E, about 90 km south-southeast of Chennai (India), 90 km east-southeast of Puducherry (India), 110 km east-northeast of Cuddalore (India), 180 km north-northeast of Karaikal (India)”, IMD wrote on X.
