Cyclone Ditwah: A day after India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued red alert for parts of Tamil Nadu, heavy rains and strong winds lashed parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on Sunday. The Cyclone Ditwah over the Bay of Bengal inched closer towards the eastern coastal regions of India. With this, the IMD predicts extremely heavy rainfall in parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
In the recent update (as posted by IMD today morning at 8:38 AM on X, “It is very likely to move nearly northwards parallel to North Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts during next 24 hours. While moving northwards the cyclonic storm will be centered over the southwest Bay of Bengal within a minimum distance of 70 km and 30 km from the Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coastline by noon and evening of today, the 30th November respectively”.
Sri Lankan authorities battled rising floodwaters in parts of the capital on Sunday after powerful cyclone ‘Ditwah’ left a trail of destruction, killing at least 159 people acorss the country.
The death toll had reached 159, with another 203 people missing, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) reported, following a week of heavy rains brought on by Cyclone Ditwah, which moved away from Sri Lanka on Saturday.
