Kutch: A powerful cyclone is expected to hit Keti Bandar in Sindh, Pakistan, on Thursday. The cyclone, named Biparjoy, has already caused widespread damage in India, and is now moving towards Pakistan.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned that Biparjoy could be a “very severe cyclonic storm” with winds of up to 150 kilometers per hour that would hit the country on Thursday. The PMD has also warned of heavy rains and flooding in the areas affected by the cyclone.
The government of Sindh has evacuated over 64,000 people from vulnerable areas in anticipation of the cyclone. The government has also set up relief camps in the affected areas.
The cyclone is expected to make landfall at Keti Bandar at around 6 pm on Thursday. The cyclone is then expected to move inland and weaken, but it is still expected to cause significant damage in the affected areas.
The government of Sindh has urged people to remain calm and to follow the instructions of the authorities. The government has also said that all necessary measures have been taken to deal with the cyclone.
Earlier on June 14, union ministers in India held a review meeting to check disaster preparedness in affected areas. Till now 74000 people have been evacuated in Gujarat and moved to safer places. This is the second cyclone to hit the state hard after Tauktae in May 2021.
