New Delhi: While videos of stranded Indian urging help made rounds, MEA today issued a notice advising all to stay indoors until the GoI negotiates with both countries for a safe corridor.
Taking to Twitter handle of the Ministry, spoks Aringdam Bagchi wrote, “ We are deeply concerned about Indian students in Sumy, Ukraine. Have strongly pressed Russian and Ukrainian governments through multiple channels for an immediate ceasefire to create a safe corridor for our students.” In another tweet, the ministry advised all to stay inside shelters and take safety precautions.
The Indian Embassy in Ukraine reported that it has arranged buses to evacuate 298 of its stranded students from Pisochyn, Kharkiv. Students from several Universities have been constantly posting videos highlighting the dire they have been facing. With no leads for an evacuation in hand, those stranded fear the shelling might take them down.
Earlier today, the Indian embassy in Ukraine said it’s exploring “all possible mechanisms” to evacuate them safely and securely. In a Tweet early morning, it said it has discussed evacuation and identification of exit routes with all interlocutors including the international humanitarian organisation Red Cross.
