New Delhi: India has detected 36,652 new COVid-19 infections in 24 hours ending at 8 AM on Saturday, taking the tally of the nation to over 96 lakh. Out of the overall tally, active cases have dropped to 4.09 lakh, whereas a total of 90,58,822 people have recovered. Almost 42,500 recoveries have been reported in the last 24 hours. The death toll mounted to 1,39,700 with 512 new death reports.

Maharashtra, accounting for the highest active cases and highest fatalities, reports more than 5,000 new cases. Another state reporting 5,000 new cases for the day is Kerala. Both Maharashtra and Kerala consecutively continue to be the biggest contributors.

Anil Vij, a cabinet minister in the state government of Haryana, has been tested positive for COVID-19. He took to his Twitter handle on Saturday to announce his test report and also advised those who had been into close contact with him in the past few days to get tested. This happened despite his volunteering to take a shot of a dose of Bharat Biotech’s vaccine candidate Covaxin, as a part of its third phase trial, at a hospital in Ambala, on November 20.

PM Modi has announced earlier on Saturday that three vaccines in the country are on trial stage; when ready, frontline and healthcare workers, along with elderly persons having serious ailment due to the virus will be given priority in the vaccination process. “Deliberations are on with the states about the dissemination and pricing of the vaccine”, stated the Prime Minister.
