New Delhi: COVID in India is worsening. Recording daily rises, the country continues to struggle against the deadly virus. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare reported 53,125 new cases in the past 24 hours. Out of which 27,918 cases are recorded from the most contaminated state Maharashtra.
The death toll of the country continues to rise with 355 deaths while only 41,217 citizens recuperated after hospitalization and are advised isolation for complete recovery. With 4.5% being the test positivity ratio; 5,49,085 active cases have been recorded by the health department.
The Covid situation in India has been becoming “bad to worse over the last few weeks,” the Centre said on Tuesday. “Trends show the virus is still very active just when we think we can control it, it sparks back,” said VK Paul, chairman of the National Expert Committee on Vaccine Administration.
He, however, denied that the mutated strains have a role to play in this surge. States are being told to enforce Covid-appropriate behaviour — “Use the law, use fine… people need to wear a mask,” he said.
Punjab reporting significant rise is reported to fall short of amenities to test and isolate citizens. Maharashtra on the other side showing a rise in its death toll. CM Uddhav Thackery has levied a charge of Rs 5 for staying in the market for an hour as a means to decongest the public. Karnataka also seems to be improving its testing and isolating facilities.
Centre declares saturation of vaccination for priority age groups in districts that are reporting a surge. As of March 30, 6,11,13,354 vaccines have been administered so far.
Instructing the health care sectors across the country, Mr Paul said,” all private facilities must be utilised optimally for vaccination. The facility must have adequate space for waiting, vaccination and observation room. The hospital must have a functional cold chain storage, adequate number of verifiers and vaccinators. They must also have facilities to address adverse events following immunization.
