An infection due to Omicrons is suspected in Mumbai’s Dombivali after an individual who arrived from South Africa tested positive for Covid-19. The area’s health department has issued a alert and put in strict curbs after the case surfaced on Sunday.As per the travel history, the infected indian citizen arrived from South Africa to Delhi on November 24 and then travelled to Mumbai. His samples have been sent for genome sequencing to ascertain if he is carrying the newly found Omicron variant of coronavirus sources reported.
Earlier during the day, the Union Ministry issued fresh rules for international arrivals in India with effect from December 1st. As per the guidelines, travellers from ‘countries at-risk’ are mandated to take Covid-19 test post arrival and restrict themselves to the airport until the results. If tested negative, they will follow home quarantine for seven days. Re-test on eighth day and if negative, futher self-monitor for next seven days. “Contacts of the suspect case are the co-passengers seated in the same row, 3 rows in front and 3 rows behind along with identified Cabin Crew. Also, all the community contacts of those travellers who have tested positive (during home quarantine period) would be subjected to quarantine for 14 days and tested as per ICMR protocol,” an official statement read.
The Centre has also listed 12 countries in ‘at risk’. Travellers from countries excluding those ‘countries at risk’ will be allowed to leave airport and shall self-monitor health for 14 days.
