NEW DELHI: Amidst the sudden uptick in COVID-19 cases, the Haryana government has made wearing face masks mandatory across the state for gatherings of more than 100 people in its new Covid-19 guidelines. Healthcare workers have also been asked to wear masks. Covid testing has been made mandatory for patients arriving with cough and cold at hospitals across the state.

Meanwhile, Punjab also witnessed an uptick in the number of new infections by 13 times in less than a month. The govt says to recorded the rise in active case by 8.4 times.

The national capital on Monday recorded 293 fresh Covid-19 cases with the positivity rate rising to 18.53 per cent which meant nearly one out of every five people tested turned out to be positive, according to data shared by the city health department. Two Covid-related deaths were reported. The health bulletin, however, mentioned that the primary cause of the deaths was not coronavirus. The city’s COVID-19 death toll now stands at 26,532.

In the wake of a spurt in cases of COVID-19 and influenza, the public health department of Maharashtra has been directed to take precautionary measures, and as per the directions, Collector Jaivanshi has issued an order making the mask mandatory for employees, including officials working with government and semi-government offices, colleges, and banks.

According to MOHFW, active cases that comprise of 0.05 per cent of the total infections accounted for 21,179 cases. With the national recovery rate at 98.76 per cent, the recuparative count stood at 4,41,77,204. The fatality count rose to 5,30,901. Under the nationwide covid vaccination drive 220.66 crore beneficiaries have been administered the dose.
