New Delhi: India’s tally of SARS-CoV 2 cases spiked to 1,09,62,498 with 12,826 new infections being reported in a day. As per MoHFW, the recoveries also surged to 1,06,65,316. The mortality rates have reached 1.56,126 with 86 more.
Globally, WHO reports 109,594,835 confirmed cases since the pandemic. The fatality rate of the country stands at 1,4%, while 94,22,228 vaccines are administered under the vaccination drive. As per ICMR, 7,71,071 infectious samples have been tested in the past 24 hours.
Since the second week of February, Maharashtra is observed upscaling new cases. Today after 75 days of sanctity, the state reports cases above 5,000 in a single day. After the arrival of the mutated strains in the country; it has shown a drastic spike in its fresh infections. With the mutation tests conducted, 3 samples of mutations were discovered from Amaravati and Yavatmal and two in Akola.
After which the Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal released a statement declaring prosecution of citizens flouting rules for home isolation, weddings, and public gatherings. Amravati district Magistrate Shailesh Naval announced a complete lockdown over the weekend.
“On Friday all establishments are ordered to be shut down by 8 pm,” the DM said. In Yavatmal, a 10-day lockdown is imposed. As per the orders from the district authorities, not more than five people are allowed to gather after 8 pm until February 28. Schools and colleges will remain close, while restaurants and wedding halls will be allowed only with 50% population. However, the state essential services will remain unaffected in both the districts.
