COVID 19 Recoveries Override the Daily Infections; Second Wave to be Deadlier than First says, WHO Chief

New Delhi: Amidst the deadliest second wave, India’s daily COVID19 recoveries surpassed the daily infections taking the recuperations above 2 crores. Nearly 3,26,014 cases were recorded. The Union health ministry reported 3,876 deaths in the past 24 hours. 

Maharashtra, the worst-hit state, reported 39,923 cases and 695 deaths. The state reported a decline in its daily infections below 40,000 for the first time after Match 31st. BMC suspended the COVID vaccine drive over the weekend as a precautionary measure after the IMD forecast surfacing of cyclone Tauktae near its borders. 

Recently polled state West Bengal registered 20, 846 new cases, the highest so far in a single day. The state health department reported 136 deaths in the past 24 hours, while the national capital recorded a dip in COVID-linked deaths. The state has immunized 43.61 lakh individuals so far, 10 lakhs among them have got both the doses, said AAP leader- Athishi. 

Citizens drenched in agony as COVID-19 triggered fungal infection brought another wave of trauma. MP in the last 2 days reported 4 cases of fungal infection. The Health Department of TN reported the arrival of 80 metric tonnes of oxygen from Bengal.  On the contrary, the Kerala PM Pinarayi Vijayan announced an extension of lockdown until May 23 to curtail the spread. 

In the North-eastern region, Mizoram declared a complete lockdown in Aizawl till May 24 reported a spokesperson from the state authorities. 

WHO Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus cautioned the global leaders against the second wave stating it to be more deadly than the first one.
