On Saturday, a special court in Mumbai allowed Shehzeen Siddique, wife of the late former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique, to intervene in the ongoing legal proceedings in a case against his murder. On October 12, 2024, three unidentified gunmen opened fire at the NCP leader at the office of his son, Zeeshan Siddique, in Bandra, one of Mumbai’s bustling and upscale areas.
Special MCOCA (Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act) Judge B.D. Shelke had on August 30 last month accepted the intervention application filed by Shehzeen. In her plea, Shehzeen Siddique emphasized the immense personal loss she has suffered and expressed a strong desire to ensure that the court is presented with the “true and correct facts” surrounding her husband’s assassination.
This legal development, pray they say, is essential to allow Shehzeen to do her bit in prosecuting the accused. They argue that her involvement will help in pursuing justice a great deal.
“The intervenor submits that, as the wife of the deceased, she has suffered an irreparable loss, and it is of utmost importance for her to place the true and correct facts before the court to aid in achieving a fair and just outcome,” the application stated.
The petition also described the murder as an “audacious attack” that has left the family in deep sorrow and has sparked widespread concern. Baba Siddique’s life dedicated to public service was cut short in a senseless act of violence, and remembering him has been described by the city as a ‘sub section’ of it.
Shehzeen Siddique is an official party to the case now and is a critical player in a full, transparent legal process.
