Kolkata: In an incident that has come to light in West Bengal a couple is alleged to have sold their 8-month son in order to buy the latest iPhone 14. Their intention was to use the phone for creating Instagram Reels while traveling across the state.
The couple, known as Jaydev and Sathi Ghosh, reside in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. After news of this crime emerged Sathi was apprehended by the police. Her husband Jaydev Ghosh remains at large leading to a search operation being conducted to locate him.
Authorities became aware of this incident when their neighbors grew suspicious. The neighbors noticed that the couple seemed unconcerned, about their missing 8-month baby and were seen in possession of an iPhone 14. This raised eyebrows given their income and previous financial difficulties.
Taking action concerned neighbors contacted local councilor Tarak Guha who immediately alerted the police for investigation. During questioning Sathi admitted to selling her baby in exchange, for the iPhone.Shockingly it has come to light that the couple had made an attempt to sell their 7 year daughter too.
Consequently the police have filed a complaint, against the couple and charges of trafficking are being brought against the woman who purchased the 8 month old baby.
