New Delhi: India in the last 24 hours recorded the highest spike of the year. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called a meeting with all chief ministers to discuss the upsurge in coronavirus cases in several states. A virtual interaction will take place at 12.30 pm on Wednesday, sources reveal.
This came after the Union health ministry reported 24,437 new cases of coronavirus infections across the Indian subcontinent. Taking the tally to 1,14,09,595; this stands to be the highest confirmed count of the infectious disease after the hiatus.
Currently, 2,20,401 active cases are recorded. The mortality rate stands at 1.4% accounting for 130 recent deaths. A declining recovery rate was registered where 20,186 individuals recovered after treatment at the hospitals and were informed to isolate themselves.
The surge in the country’s daily coronavirus levels is led by eight states that have reported 78.41 percent of the total new cases as reported by the Union Health Ministry. These include Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Gujarat, Karnataka, and Haryana.
Out of which Maharashtra is the worst-hit state contributing majorly to the resurgence. Kerala on the other hand started to dip it’s new infectious and aimed at spiking its recoveries. Sources also reveal Telangana reporting 55 new cases at a school, fearing MoHFW.
The PM of India and CM of the states have been meeting virtually since the spike was re-instilled in mid-February.
