New Delhi: India registered the highest spike of COVI-19 in 2021 with 35,838 new cases in the past 24 hours. Globally, in 2021, there have been 120,383,919 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 2,664,386 deaths under the threat of the mutant strain.
In the virtual meeting between PM and state heads, PM expressed concern over the “emerging second peak” of Covid and has laid down decisive steps including micro-containment zones, increased testing, and enforcement of restrictions like masks to contain the spread. It is reported that a total of 70 districts in 16 states have shown an increase of more than 150 percent active cases between March 1 and 15. “If we don’t stop this right now, then there could be a situation of a nationwide outbreak. We have to immediately stop the emerging second peak and take big and decisive steps,” PM Modi told the Chief Ministers.
The country ranks third in the plagued nations after the US and Brazil. The total caseload of the country is recorded as 1,14,74,302. While 2,49,197 cases are active amongst them. The drop in the recovery rate continued registering 17,793 recuperations in the last 24 hours. The mortality has also shown a spike recording 171 deaths raising the tally to 1,59,250.
Maharashtra contributed majorly to the spike with 23,179 cases in the last 24 hours. The recuperative rate hasn’t shown a significant rise as per MoHFW. Maharashtra registered a total of 53,080 deaths cumulatively.
