Coronavirus update: Is the Nation Under the Second Wave of COVID? PM Meets the CM to Delineate Measures

New Delhi: India recorded 28,869 new COVID-19 cases, registering nearly 30,000 cases for the sixth day in a row, taking the infection tally past 1.14 crore, the Union health ministry said today.

A rise in the country’s caseload reported 1,14,38,464, while the number of deaths increased to 1,59,079, with 187 fresh fatalities. Registering a spike in cases for the sixth day in a row, the active caseload has increased to 2,31,335 which now comprises 1.96 per cent of the total infections.

The recovery rate has further dropped to 96.65 per cent, recording 17,746 recuperations in the past 24 hours. The cumulative recovered count stands at 1,10,43,377 since the outbreak.

Out of the 187 new fatalities, 87 deaths were reported from Maharashtra, 38 from Punjab and 15 from Kerala. Maharashtra continues present an inflation in coronavirus. The second wave of the mutant series took over 17,864 taking the tally to 23,47,328. While Punjab noted 1,463 new infections, the active count of the country is majorly contributedby these states.

Out of the 1,57,079 deaths, Maharashtra accounts for approximately 53,000 causalities, followed by 12,556 from Tamil Nadu, 12,403 from Karnataka, 10,945 from Delhi, 10,297 from West Bengal, 8,750 from Uttar Pradesh and 7,185 from Andhra Pradesh. 

The Healthcare administration registered over 3,8 Million vaccines under their mega inoculation drive, as per ICMR.
