New Delhi: The ordeal of novel coronavirus doesn’t seem to demolish anytime soon in India. Continuing with the daily trend, India broke yesterday’s record with 97,570 Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. The total coronavirus count in the country crossed 46 lakh, while 1,201 fatalities took the death toll past 77,000.

“The total case tally stands at 46,59,985 including 9,58,316 active cases, 36,24,197 cured/discharged/migrated and 77,472 deaths”, said the Ministry of Health in the morning bulletin.

India scaled yet another peak of highest-ever single day recoveries as 81,533 patients recover in last 24 hours. 60% of total recoveries concentrated in five states. The total number of recovered cases in India has surged to 36,24,196.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research Report, 5,51,89,226 total number of samples tested in India for Covid-19 upto September 11 and 10,91,251 samples tested in the last 24 hours.

However, the silver lining in the gloomy cloud,  Vaccine maker Bharat Biotech has announced that the animal trials of its Covid-19 vaccine candidate Covaxin were successful. It said the results demonstrated the protective efficacy of the vaccine in a live viral challenge model. It said the data from the study on primates substantiates the immunogenicity of the vaccine candidate.

The overall number of global coronavirus cases has topped 28.3 million, while the deaths have increased to over 9,13,000, according to the Johns Hopkins University. As of Saturday morning, the total number of cases stood at 28,331,121 and the fatalities rose to 9,13,015. The US accounted for the world’s highest number of cases and deaths at 64,43,048 and 1,92,968 respectively. India is currently in the second place in terms of cases at 45,62,414, while the country’s death toll stood at 76,271.
