Coronavirus Update: India crosses 37 lakh mark; death toll nears 65,000
New Delhi: On Wednesday, the tally of Coronavirus cases in India crossed the 37 lakh mark with atleast 78,300 new positive cases and 1045 deaths due to COVID-19. Among all the countries, India continues to report highest daily coronavirus cases in the world.
Menawhile, the number of recoveries crossed 29 lakh pushing the recovery rate to 76.98 per cent, the Union health ministry data showed. However, There are 8,01,282, active cases in the country which comprises 21.26 per cent of the total caseload.
Today marked the 163rd day since India carried out a cross country lockdown, to help control the novel Covid pandemic. Up until this point, India has recorded 37,69,523 affirmed COVID-19 cases, including 64,469 deaths.
“27,74,802 patients have recovered from the infection in the country, taking the recovery rate to 76.62 percent. There are 7,81,975 active coronavirus cases in the country currently which account for 21.59 percent of the total caseload,” the Union health Ministry data showed.
Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu have revealed the most elevated number of cases. However, diseases are rising quickly in states like Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7 and went past 30 lakh on August 23.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a total of 4,43,37,201 samples have been tested up to September 1, of which 10,12,367 were tested on Tuesday.
Earlier today, the Union Health Ministry informed that fifty-four per cent of the total coronavirus cases in India were reported among people from 18 to 44 years of age while patients in 60 years and above bracket account for 51 per cent deaths.
“54% of COVID-19 cases are in the 18-44 years age group but 51% deaths are in the 60 years and above age group,” MOHFW tweeted.

On Monday, the Union health ministry said,” Centre to deploy teams in UP, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha to tackle rising cases Central teams will be deployed in Jharkhand, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh which are seeing a sudden surge in COVID-19 cases”.
