New Delhi: The COVID-19 caseload in India has reached to 94.99 lakh. Meanwhile, the recovery rate has crossed 89 lakh, which has pushed the national recovery rate to over 94%, as per the data updated by the Union Health Ministry.
The total COVID-19 cases climbed to 94,99,413, with 36,604 new infections reported within 24 hours. The death count mounted to 1,38,122 with 501 new fatalities, showed the data updated by the Union Health Ministry at 8 AM this morning.
The number of people who have fought back and recovered surged to 89,32,647, which pushed the national recovery rate to 94.03%. Contextually, the case fatality rate for COVID-19 stands at 1.45%.
This is the 22nd consecutive day for the active COVID-19 caseload remaining below 5 lakh. According to the data, there are 4,28,644 active COVID-19 cases in the country, comprising 4.51% of the total caseload, as per the data.
Vaccine Update
The Serum Institute of India has asserted that the Oxford Coronavirus Vaccine is ‘safe and immunogenic’. The statement battled massive controversies over a trial volunteer in Chennai, who alleges immense adverse effects of the vaccine, including “virtual neurological breakdown, memory loss, and behavioral changes”.
The Adar Poonawalla-led Serum Institute defended its legal notice to sue the volunteer, stating “it was sent to safeguard the reputation of the company which is being unfairly maligned. On the other hand, the vaccine-maker calls the allegations of the volunteer ‘malicious and misconceived’, and prepping to file a Rs. 100 crore defamation suit. Some experts showed concern as they see it as an attempt to intimidate the trial participant.
