New Delhi: India reported 60,471  fresh coronavirus infections in the past 24 hours. This took the cumulative count of infections to 2,94,90,047, stated the Union Health Ministry.

The recovery rate at 95.64 percent accounted for  1,17,525 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to  2,82,804,72. 

The number of active cases has reduced to  9,13,378  accounting for 3.09 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a decline of  59,780  in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.28 per cent reported  2,726 deaths, taking the cumulative death toll to  3,77,031.

 Novovax on Monday said its vaccine against coronavirus is more than 90 per cent effective. The jab “demonstrated 100 percent protection against moderate and severe disease, 90.4 percent efficacy overall,” the company said in a statement. The vaccine will be manufactured by the Pune-Based Serum Institute, which is already producing Covishield in India. 

As per MoHFW, 39,27,154 individuals were vaccinated in the past 24 hours. Out of these, 20,99,621 vaccine doses were administered as the first dose and 1,16,326 vaccine doses given as the second dose in the age group 18-44 years today.  The cumulative number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country is 25.90 Cr.
