INDIA: According to the latest update by the Union Health Ministry, nearly 4,000 new cases & 103 deaths due to the coronavirus in 24 hours has taken the overall tally of India’s COVID-19 closer to the 86,000 mark which is certainly to be crossed by the evening today.

While 30,153 people accounting to 35% of the total cases have recovered from the disease, there are nearly 53,035 patients who are still undergoing treatments against the infection due to the deadly virus. Around, % of the infected patients have succumbed to the virus in the country so far.

On Saturday, India crossed the COVID-19 tally of China where the virus emerged late last year and is alleged to be the origin of the deadly virus by many. With the current data, India ranks 11th in the world in terms of coronavirus cases. However, India’s fatality rate at 3.2% still remains significantly better than China which has recorded a death rate of 5.5%.

With more than 1500 new positive cases, Maharashtra has more than 29,000 cases out of which only 6,564 have been cured till now. The death toll registered in the state is also the highest with 1068 fatalities. 

Meanwhile, 79 police personnel in Mumbai have tested positive in 24 hours, taking the number of those infected in the police force in Maharashtra to 1,140. Out of these, 862 are active while 268 have been recovered so far while 10 succumbed to the virus.

The second worst hit state Tamil Nadu, without any significant improvement continues to rise its active cases. 359 patients have recovered in the state in the last 24 hours while 434 new cases added to the tally.

On Friday, Gujarat reported 20 new deaths taking its death count to 606. The total cases in the state is also approaching 10,000 mark, expected to be crossed by the evening according to its earlier trends.

Delhi registers the third highest number of new positive cases in the last 24 hours taking the active cases in the UT closer to that of Gujarat. With nearly 10 deaths, the fatalities in the state nears that of Rajasthan’s death toll.

Meanwhile, 9 districts in Madhya Pradesh that had earlier reported COVID-19 cases, have now become coronavirus-free. However, the active cases in the state exceed that of Rajasthan.

Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh & West Bengal too continue to report around 100 new cases. West Bengal’s death toll worsens with 10 new fatalities reported in the state.

Maharashtra, Gujarat, MP, West Bengal, Rajasthan & Delhi have reported the maximum deaths in the country so far. While there are nearly 9 states/UTs including Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Dadra Nagar Haveli, Manipur, Goa, Andaman and Nicobar, Ladakh, Chhattisgarh & Tripura which have not reported a single death as of now. 

The condition in some states however, has started becoming a cause of concern with a sudden rise in  the number of positive cases detected in the states.
