Corona Update: More than 81,000 cases recorded; Union Cabinet Secretary to Convene Representatives of 11 States

New Delhi: Yet again the nation registers another huge spike this year. The data provided to the health ministry reported 81,398 new cases in a single day, taking the total caseload to 1,23,02,110. MoHFW reported 468 fatalities across the country the highest since December. A drop in the recovery rate was observed which recorded only 50,384 recuperations. So far 6,10,925 active cases are observed in India. 

Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Punjab, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh continue to show a steep rise in daily new cases, accounting for 84.61 percent of the new cases reported in a span of 24 hours, the Health Ministry said.  

In view of rising Covid 19 cases, the Western Railway on Thursday decided to suspend the services of Ahmedabad-Mumbai-Ahmedabad Tejas Express for a month.  Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) also informed about the suspension of Tejas Express. Its Twitter handle revealed the details of the service suspension. 

This suspension aroused after Maharashtra 43,183 fresh cases and 249 deaths which is considered the highest spike since the outbreak. Gujrat subsequently reported 2,410 cases in the last 24 hours. Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will hold an ‘urgent meeting’ today to prepare an action plan in the wake of rising COVID-19 cases in the national capital. Apart from the health minister, officials of concerned departments will also be part of the meeting.  

The worrying surge in Covid cases has prompted many states to consider the return of school closures, restrictions on public gatherings, and other virus-fighting measures, including lockdown in their worst-hit districts.

 Initiating its next phase to vaccinate all citizens above 45 years, the government has decided to operationalize both public and private sector vaccination centres throughout the month of April, including on gazetted holidays.
