Corona Update: Maharashtra under Lockdown Extension Again; to Continue Till 1st June to Break the Chain

Mumbai: The Maharashtra Govt has again decided to extend the lockdown by 15 more days till June 1 to break the chain of transmission of the coronavirus. The restrictions that are already imposed are designated to continue till further notice. The Uddhav Thackeray-led Govt also made it mandatory for people coming from other states to carry a negative RT-PCR test to enter the state through any means of transport.

The vaccination of the age group 18-44 has also been diverted due to the shortage of vaccines in the state. The health minister of Maharashtra, Rajesh tope said, “There is no sufficient supply of vaccine vials by the Centre for inoculation of above-45 age group people. Hence, the state cabinet decided to divert the stock, purchased for the 18-44 age group, for the above-45 age group. Therefore, we are suspending the inoculation of the 18-44 age group for some period”.

The covid crisis in Maharashtra is very grim and thus, these extreme steps are taken to control the situation. Rajesh tope further said, “Maharashtra’s Covid-19 growth rate is merely half of the country’s daily growth rate. The state’s per day growth rate is 0.8 percent as against the country’s rate of 1.4 percent. The state is carrying out around two lakh tests on a daily basis while per million testing is around 2.50 lakh. It is a very good sign for us”. Hopefully, with such restrictions, the situation can be controlled in a better manner.
