India: As the world continues to grapple with the debilitating disease, India is at the red zone with over 45,000 new cases in a single day —- highest ever recorded for the country.

On Wednesday, India reported 45,720 fresh cases and 1129 deaths reported in the past 24 hours, the death toll has reached to 29861 in India. According to the latest data by the Health Ministry, the total number of confirmed cases has risen to 12,38,635.

At present, there are 4,26,167 active coronavirus patients in the country. Health Ministry data showed that 7,82,606 people who had been infected with the virus have recovered so far. With this, the cumulative recovery rate of India rose to 63.1 percent.

According to the latest data of the Coronavirus cases from all states, Maharashtra remains the worst affected state with 3,37,607 cases and 12,556 casualties. The other states that have seen the most number of cases includes Tamil Nadu (1,86,492),Delhi (1,26,323), Karnataka (75833), Andra pradesh (64713), Uttar Pradesh (55588), Gujarat (51399) and Telangana (49259).

Tamil Nadu surpassed Maharashtra in reporting the death count in a single day. The five states that reported the highest deaths in the last 24 hours are: Tamil Nadu (518), Maharashtra (280), Andhra Pradesh (65), Karnataka (55) and West Bengal (39).

Meanwhile, the highest number of samples were tested on Wednesday, with 3,50,823 samples collected. The total samples tested till now is over 1.5 crore, government data shows.

In the wake of coronavirus outbreak in the country, Several states have declared full lockdown in their cities as coronavirus cases continue to rise. India has the highest number of coronavirus cases after the US and Brazil.

On a brighter side, Human trials of the indigenously developed coronavirus vaccine, COVAXIN, began on July 20, AIIMS-Delhi Director Dr Randeep Guleria said, adding that it would take at least three months for researchers to arrive at the first set of data.
