Corona Update: India witness a significant drop in new cases; major concern remains the mortality rate of over 3700 daily
New Delhi: India recorded 4,092 new COVID-19 related deaths on Sunday, raising the total number of fatalities to2,74,411. The Union Health Ministry confirmed 2,81,683 new infections across the country in the past 24 hours, meaning so far 2.50 crore people have contracted the disease. Of the total number of cases, 35,12,660 remain active and 3,78,388 recuperated.
According to the Union Health Ministry, Maharashtra continued a steady dip in COVID-19 cases, reporting 34,389 new infections on Sunday as opposed to 59,318 recoveries as the State’s active case tally declined further to 4,68,109. However, the state recorded a very high fatality spike of 974 deaths pushing the death toll to 81,486. On the vaccination front, Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad district authorities announced the stalling of all vaccination centers due to the shortage of doses.
On the other hand, the National Capital also raised an SOS for COVAXIN, which will run out of stock by the evening. While the number of mucormycosis cases across the country is suspected to be more than a thousand, Delhi reported 23 cases being treated at AIIMS with 20 of them COVID positive. CM Kejriwal directed health authorities to take all necessary steps to check cases of black fungus.
In an attempt to tackle the pandemic and motivate the public, the CM of Punjab, Amarinder Singh launched ‘COVID FATEH’. “This program is part of a “Corona Mukt Pind Abhiyaan”, said the CM. He stressed the need to avoid the kind of situation prevailing in the villages of Uttar Pradesh and directed the health and rural development departments to lead the campaign with the mobilization of the community in the villages. The state also will witness an extended ban on movement as the CM extended COVID restrictions until 31 May.
States like Mizoram, Goa, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and West Bengal recorded a rise in increasing order, stated the National Health bulletin report
