New Delhi: Close to 90 percent of India is witnessing a high Covid positivity rate as 640 districts out of the 734 are above the national threshold level of 5 percent positivity rate, the centre said on Tuesday. The health ministry reported 3,48,389 new infections across the country. States like Himachal Pradesh and Nagaland log high positivity rates reported the health ministry. A total of  4,198 were reported as the death count climbed to 2,54,225.

Maharashtra reports the majority of Mucormycotic cases. The government has decided to utilize the hospitals attached to the medical colleges as treatment centres for the Post COVID-19 fungal infection. 

 After registering a steady rise for two months, the active cases have reduced to 36,99,661 comprising 16.16 percent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 83 percent.

 Delhi, along with a bunch of southern Indian states, today joined several others in taking the global-tender route to procure COVID-19 vaccines even as domestic supply fails to keep up with rising demand. Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Odisha have already begun their process on the global tender.

On the vaccination front, sources reveal 18 crore doses supplied to states and Union Territories for free. Nearly 7,29,610 additional doses are expected to be distributed in the coming three days.

Egypt donated 30 tons of medical supplies including 300 oxygen cylinders,50oxygen concentrators, and 8,000 Remdesivir vials to India. The consignments landed at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Delhi, and were received by   Egyptian Ambassador Heba Elmarassi and representatives of the Ministry of External Affairs.
