New Delhi: India flagged 3,780 deaths in the last 24 hours taking the toll to 2,26,188. MoHFW reported 3.82 lakh new infections yesterday.
The worst-hit state Maharashtra logged 51,880 new cases to the already affected. The new lot of infections took the caseload to 48.22 lakh overall.
Karnataka’s capital recorded more than 3 lakh active cases. Nearly 44,631 new patients were diagnosed yesterday. Increasing demand for hospital beds and oxygen has commenced in the city.
Kerala reported 37,190 individuals positive while 57 succumbed to death. The state is under severe lockdown-like restrictions from Tuesday till May 9.
Assam on Tuesday saw its highest-ever number of Covid deaths with the death of 41 patients. 4,475 people tested positive on the same day.
On Tuesday, the government revised norms for COVID testing stating, ” an RT-PCR test must not be repeated in a person who has tested positive once either by RAT or RT-PCR and that testing isn’t needed for recovered patients at the time of hospital discharge as well as for “healthy” inter-state travellers.”
The Allahabad High Court Tuesday observed that the death of Covid patients over non-supply of oxygen to hospitals is a criminal act, “not less than a genocide” by authorities entrusted the task to ensure the oxygen supply chain is maintained. The court made the remarks after reports of the death of coronavirus patients due to lack of oxygen in Uttar Pradesh capital Lucknow and Meerut.
