Corona Update: Delhi, New Epicentre? Centre Worried about Uncontrollable Surge

New Delhi: India continues to proceed towards danger. The trajectory of the infectious cases presents another spike registering 23,298 cases, in a single day. As per MoHFW, 1,94,313 active cases have been observedin the past 24 hours.

Around 15,072 citizens have been cured as per databases, while the death toll of the nation continues to cross hundred reporting 119 mortalities due to the novel virus.

On Thursday 11 March, the Union Health Ministry announced 10 cities belonging to Maharashtra presenting the highest surge. They are- Amaravati, Pune, Thane, Mumbai Jalgaon, Nashik, and Aurangabad. ICMR head, Balaram Bhargava reports that mutations are not solely responsible for the resurgence. The state presented with the deadliest count in a single day on 11 March, recording 14,317 new cases. Sources reveal 21,06,400 discharges cumulatively and 57 deaths in the past 24 hours.Meanwhile, the Maharashtra government announced a week-long lockdown from March 15 to March 21 in Nagpur. CM Udhav Thackery said,” Some areas of Maharashtra will witness strict lockdown measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus infection. The government is going to hold a special meeting with officials before coming out with the lockdown measures.”

After Maharashtra, comes Delhi’s turn to form the new hotspot. An alarming rise in the state’s covid cases was registered in the past 24 hours. Dr VK Paul, Chairman of National Expert Committee on Vaccine Administration said, “Our word of caution is for Delhi and neighbouring areas of Noida, Faridabad, Ghaziabad. Delhi is seeing a rise. So be careful.”

Experts have attributed the resurgence to people turning complacent, and not following COVID-19 appropriate behaviour.
