Continuing to register the spike for the seventh day in a row, the MoHFW reported 3,62,757 new infections in the past 24 hours. The recent infections took the total count of infected citizens to 1,79,88,637. Out of the infected 29,72,106 are active cases. Around 2,62,039 recovered amidst the looming times across the nation. 3,285 were cremated after they lost their battle against the virus. 

In the worst-hit state of Maharashtra, situations worsened after a fire broke at a private hospital in Thane, around 28km from state capital Mumbai. The blaze broke out at the Prime Criticare Hospital at Kausa in Mumbra at around 3.40 am succumbing 4 to death after 20 patients were rescued. Sources reveal no COVID patients at the hospital. The state recorded 895 new Covid-linked deaths and over 66,000 new cases. 

 After Maharashtra, Kerala, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Delhi have the greatest number of infections. 

 Kerala logged 32,819 new infections in a single day. The state’s active caseload has risen by a whopping 255 percent in the last two weeks, according to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.  While 381 more deaths added to the whooping mass cremations of the national capital. The number of fresh infections was 24,149, which took the number of active cases to over 98,000. The positivity rate remained at 32.72 percent.  

 Karnataka imposed a two-week lockdown in a bid to break the huge rise in cases in the state. After recording nearly, 31,830cases, the state health care sector fails to cope with the demand for ICU beds, oxygen, and medicines. 

 Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday chaired a meeting with top officials to review the Covid situation and directed them to ensure rapid upgrading of health infrastructure.
