INDIA: On Tuesday, India hits the gruesome milestone of 1,00,000 coronavirus confirmed cases as new infected cases emerged to see a rise of 5000 for second day in a row. India reported 4,970 new cases over the past 24 hours, taking the total Covid-19 cases in the country to 101,139. This comes at a time when the fourth phase of the nationwide lockdown kicked in with several relaxations for economic and public activities.
According to Ministry of Health data, the death toll rises to 3,163 with 134 new fatalities. There are 58,802 patients who are under active supervision whereas 39,173 patients have recovered.
Globally, India is the 11th most affected country due to coronvirus outbreak. It has breached 1,00,000 mark in confirmed cases but the spread of infection is slower when compared to other countries like Germany, France, United Kingdom, USA among others which have more advanced healthcare facilities.
Looking at the death count, India’s death rate remains below that of other large countries. Its mortality rate for those with the disease is 3%, compared with 6% for United States where around 89,000 people have died, 14% for the United Kingdom and Italy and 15% for France among others.

Maharashtra reported 2033 new cases & 51 fatalities in the last 24 hours, taking the total count to 35058 count with a death toll of 1,249. Maharashtra records 19561 positive cases in the last 13 days and an average of around 1500 new cases daily.
Tamil Nadu and Gujarat are at bottleneck to be the second worst hit state with 11760 and 11745 respectively. Meanwhile, the National capital’s total cases tally crossed the 10,000-mark on Monday, and now stands at 10,054.
According to the Health Ministry, the union territory of Goa, which had maintained the status of ‘coronavirus free state’ for a long time, has reported a resurgence in cases recently, as 5 new cases have taken its total tally to 29
Meanwhile, the overall number of global coronavirus cases increased to a whopping 49 lakhs, while the worldwide death toll surpassed 3.2 lakh. The total number of cases account for 4,911,720, while the COVID-19 fatalities increased to 320,454.
