New Delhi: The country set a new record registering 3,79,257 cases and 3,645 deaths in a single day. Counting for over a week now, the country continues to register higher infections day by day. 2,70,339 Indian citizens came victorious despite the healthcare sector on the edge.
In the looming healthcare crisis US, China, the UK, and Russia have been sending aids. In a tweet, US Secretary of Défense Lloyd J Austin III, said, “We’re committed to use every resource at our disposal, within our authority, to support India’s frontline healthcare workers.” The US shared supplies more than 100 million to India to help it fight a surge of COVID-19 cases, the White House said in a statement on Wednesday. Around 1,000 oxygen cylinders, 15 million N95 masks, and 1 million rapid diagnostic tests have been sent across. The Chinese Ambassador also took to his Twitter handle on Wednesday saying,” Chinese medical suppliers are working overtime on orders from India, at least 25000 orders for oxygen concentrators in recent days. Cargo planes are under plan for medical supplies. Chinese customs will facilitate the relevant process.”
After the worst-hit Maharashtra, recorded a drop by five percent in its active caseload, states like Karnataka and West Bengal recorded the highest ever caseload since the outbreak. Nearly 39,000 and 17,207 infections were reported from the respective states. Kerala recorded more than 35,000 new Covid cases while Uttar Pradesh recorded over 29,000 cases. Even as Delhi remains under a curfew for the second consecutive week, the city recorded 25,986 cases.
The WHO reports the discovery of B.1.1617 strain of coronavirus in 17 new countries after it was first found in India stating the underlying sourness of the second wave.
