Corona Update: 896 new cases of Coronavirus registered in a single day; Worry lingered over the entire nation

India: As per the latest Health Ministry report, India registered 896 new cases with 34 deaths in a single day. On Thursday, the figure was 5865 while on Friday evening the tally mounted to 6761. This is the highest one-day surge the country has witnessed so far.

Since last week, the Health Ministry has observed a flabbergasting rise in daily number of confirmed cases across the nation with about 500 cases registered daily with few exception.

Maharashtra, Delhi and Tamil Nadu are the three-most affected states in the country with 1,364 , 898 and 834 registered cases respectively.

The number of deaths topped the 200-mark as the fatalities rose to 206. Of the total 206 deaths, Maharashtra tops the tally with 97 fatalities, followed by Gujarat at 17, Madhya Pradesh at 16 and Delhi at 13. Punjab registered 11 deaths while Tamil Nadu has reported eight fatalities and Telengana seven. Other state like Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka have reported six deaths each while West bengal records 5 deaths. Jammu kashmir, utar pradesh registered four deaths whereas haryana & rajasthan witnessed 3 deaths each. Two deaths have been reported from Kerala. Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha and Jharkhand reported one fatality each.

Lav Aggarwal, Joint secretary, Health Ministry also reiterated there is still no sign of community transmission in the country and people are advised to not panic in this severe situation.

Despite this steep rise in numbers, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) data suggest the rate of positive cases is between 3-5% from the samples tested so far. Also a total of 1,61,330 samples from 1,47,034 individuals have been tested as of 10th April 2020 claims ICMR.
