Corona Update: 3.46 lakh cases & 2,620 deaths recorded in a day; Oxygen Plants to be Airlifted from Germany

New Delhi: Logging another 3.46 lakh new cases, the country competes against itself. The total caseload of the nation now stands at 1,66,02,610.

Marking the world’s highest daily rise, the Indian Health care system fails to render treatment to the lakhs inflicted. The death rate rose to 1,89,549 after another 2,620 citizens died of the novel virus.

Maharashtra and Delhi reported 733 deaths and 358 deaths respectively, accounting for the highest number of COVID-related deaths in a span of 24 hours. 

Hospitals across the country have issued SOS and ceased admission due to lack of facilities. With the wild rise of the cases, hospitals have re-iterated the government over the shortage of oxygen for critical patients of COVID. 

Assuring the “high Covid-burden” states of support from the centre, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for the states to remain united in the fight against the virus.

He has called for utilizing the industry’s full potential to meet the demands of medical oxygen in the coming days, saying there is a need to increase the availability of oxygen cylinders as well as upgrade the logistic facilities for its transport.

India’s drug regulator DCGI on Friday gave cleared Zydus Cadila’s “Virafin” for emergency use for the treatment of Covid patients. “It comes at a much-needed time for patients and we will continue to provide them access to critical therapies in this battle against COVID-19,” Dr Sharvil Patel, Managing Director, Cadila Healthcare Limited said. 

Sources reveal, the Defence Ministry has decided to airlift 23 mobile oxygen generating plants from Germany to support the crippling health care system.
