Corona Update: 2,22,834 Infections Confirmed & 4,454 succumbed; death toll crosses 3-lakh mark

New Delhi: The Union Health Ministry confirmed 2,22,834  new infections across the country in the past 24 hours, meaning so far 2.67 crore people have contracted the disease. India witnessed 4,454  COVID-19 related deaths on Sunday, raising the total number of fatalities to 3,03,753. Of the total number of cases, 27,16,362 remain active and 3,02,205 recuperated. 

In the past 24 hours, Tamil Nadu witnessed a rise in its tally after detecting 35,483 cases. Worst Hit state Maharashtra recorded  26,672 cases, while Karnataka reported 25,979 infections, Kerala logged 25,820 infections and Andhra Pradesh reported 18,767 cases. These states along with UP have seen to contribute majorly to the rise. 

Amid the second wave ebbing across the country black fungus cases have emerged as a huge concern as the nation’s fight against the virus. Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat on Sunday extended to support the centre in tackling the COVID-19 situation.  

On the vaccination front, several states continue to report a shortage of vaccines. However, India successfully shielded more than 19.5 Crore citizens against the virus. As per ICMR, 19,28,127 samples were tested in a single day. On the whole, 33,05,36,064 infected samples have been tested.
