INDIA: As of now, India stands at the seventh position among the countries severely affected by coronavirus pandemic. In the last 24 hours, India has reached new a peak with over 9,996 new cases; surpassing the previous tally of 2.86 lakhs. The fatalities have now increased to a total of 357- making it the highest number of deaths in a day, bringing the deaths due to COVID-19 virus to a number of as many as 8,102.
On the contrary to all the grief and sadness throughout the nation, a ray of hope emerges as over 1.40 lakh have recovered from the disease. The number of cured patients surpassed the active COVID-19 patients for the second straight day.
With the highest spike in coronavirus cases, Maharashtra remains the worst hit state with 94,041 cases of the infection. Not only that, it has also set a new milestone within the last twenty-four hours by registering 3,235 coronavirus cases. On Wednesday, the state recorded it’s biggest single-day surge since outbreak with a confirmed number of 149 deaths. Ever since the outbreak, the state’s capital, Mumbai alone has accounted for 52,667 cases.
Even on Wednesday, Delhi’s coronavirus tally continued to rise sharply.
In the last twenty-four hours, national capital has added 1500 cases to the total COVID-19 cases, registering the total to 32,810. This has now happened twice since the outbreak. The deaths from coronavirus infection rose to 984 in the capital.
After Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu happens to record the most number of cases in the country. Since the past twenty-four hours, the state has seen a explosion in the number of new cases making it the biggest jump in daily COVID-19 count. For straight four days, the state has been witnessing over 1,500 cases. Just yesterday, 1,927 new cases were confirmed in the state taking the tally to 36,84.
73 lakh people around the world have been affected and more than 416,201 people died due to the virus. The United States confirmed over 20 lakh COVID-19 cases and 1.12 lakh deaths. Brazil was the worst-hit nation after the US. It reported over 7.72 lakh COVID-19 cases and more than 34,000 fatalities.
Meanwhile, The World Health Organization (WHO) urged countries to press on with efforts to contain the novel coronovirus, noting the global situation is worsening. “More than six months into the pandemic this is not the time for any country to take its foot off the pedal,” WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told an online briefing.
