INDIA: The spread of novel coronavirus seems unstoppable in the nation as India hits another one day spike with over 18,000 new cases registered in the last 24 hours.The total number of coronavirus patients in India rose to 5,66,840 on Monday as per health ministry data.
Of these new cases, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu recorded the biggest jump in cases on Monday with 5,257 and 3,949 respectively. Delhi and Karnataka also witnessed an explosion of fresh infections.
Death toll has increased to 16,893 after 418 patients passed away on Monday. The fatality rate in India is comparatively low at 2.9%. Maharashtra recorded 181 fatalities while Tamil Nadu added 62 causalities on Monday.
On the brighter side, Atleast 3.3 lakh coronavirus patients were recovered from the infection. More than 59% of the total COVID-19 cases were cured in the country. However, 2,15,125 patients are still struggling against the disease. India has the fourth highest number of active cases in the world.

In India, Maharashtra remains the worst hit state, nears 1.7 lakh COVID-19 infections. In the last 24 hours, Maharashtra recorded over 5,000 coronavirus cases taking the total count to 1,69,883. The death toll in the state mounted to 7,610.
Tamil Nadu jumped to second position after surpassing Delhi’s total count, the total number of COVID-19 patients stood at 86,224. Over 3,900 people tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
On Monday, Delhi’s COVID-19 count zoomed to 85,161. In the last 24 hours, at least 2,084 people diagnosed positive for the novel coronavirus. In the National capital , the fatalities from the infection increased to 2,680.
Meanwhile, Indian Council of medical Research (ICMR) has conducted over 86,08,654 tests so far. On Monday, ICMR has collected a sample of 2,10,292 people in the last 24 hours.
