New Delhi: In a biggest single day spike, as many as 16,922 new cases of novel coronavirus pushed COVID-19 tally tally to 4.73 lakh on Thursday morning in India.
The death toll due to coronavirus in India climbed to 14,894 after at least 418 deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours. During the last 24 hours, a total of 13,012 covid-19 patients have been cured. A total of 2,71,696 patients have been cured so far. The recovery rate stands at 57.42%
As per the data released by the Union Health Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the COVID-19 tally in India rose to 4,73,105. At present, there are 1,86,514 active cases in the country.
Delhi has surpassed Mumbai as the worst-hit city in the country. Of the four metropolitan cities, Delhi now has the highest number of cases. On Thursday, Delhi’s coronavirus tally rose to over 70,390, surpassing Mumbai which has 69,528 cases.
On Wednesday, 14,476 people tested positive for coronavirus in a single day, which took India’s Covid-19 tally to 4,56,183 while the death toll rose neared 15,000 with 465 new fatalities, according to the Union Health Ministry data.
India is the fourth worst-hit nation by the pandemic after the US, Brazil and Russia. According to Johns Hopkins University, which has been compiling COVID-19 data from all over the world, India is at the eighth position in terms of the death toll.
According to ICMR, over 75 lakh samples have been tested for COVID-19 till June 24. And on Wednesday, 2.07 lakh samples were tested in the last 24 hours. There are 1,000 testing laboratory in the country, ramping up the capacity for detection of covid in the country. Of the 1,000 testing laboratories, 730 are in government setups while 270 are in the private sector.
