New Delhi: After a high surge of over 60,000 fresh cases for 5 straight days, India recorded a new low on Monday with 53,601 new cases, according to the health ministry data.

With this, India’s Covid tally has reached 2,268,675, the health ministry said. Of these 6,39,929 are active cases.

The recovery rate is on continuous rise for India with 68.90 percent cumulative recorded across nation. In the last 24 hours, 47,746 people have been cured taking the total to 1,583,489 recovered cases.

On Monday, India reported 871 fatalities comparatively lower than the previous day’s 1071 in the last 24 hours. The total number of deaths in India has reached to 45,257 casualties.

According to Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), so far India has conducted 2,45,83,558 tests, which includes 4,77,023 tests in the last 24 hours.

India’s testing rate is comparatively extremely low than that of the world. Current test rate is 18,000 tests per million. The US and Russia have tested about one out of every five of their citizens or around 2 lakh per million compared with India’s one out of every 50.

More than 20 million people have been infected with the novel coronavirus in the world. This milestone was crossed on Tuesday as cases rose to 20,011,186, according to tally by John Hopkins. The death toll due to the disease stands at nearly 732,000.
