INDIA: India on Friday surpassed UK to become the fourth worst-hit country by the coronavirus pandemic, after a record spike of over 10,000 cases, According to Johns Hopkins University data.
On Friday morning, the health ministry data said India reported 10,975 new cases in the last 24 hours —- biggest one-day spike recorded so far. With this, the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases has surged to 2,97,535.
In a week, India reached the grim milestone of 4th most affected country. Now, only the US, Brazil and Russia are ahead of it.

The death toll from the COVID-19 virus spiraled to 396 in last 24 hours. Coronavirus killed 8,498 people in the country. Maharashtra recorded 152 deaths on Thursday — highest number of fatalities in a day. Globally, India stands at 11th position in death toll.
The number of active coronavirus patients in the country stood at 141,842. Over 49% of the total coronavirus patients were recovered from the infection since the outbreak. The number of cured patients surpassed the active COVID-19 patients for the third straight day. India stands at 7th in most recovered from the virus worldwide.

With atleast 3607 new cases and 152 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, Maharashtra registered 47,980 active cases in the state. 46,078 people recovered from the disease so far. However, the state continues to struggle in controlling the virus as new cases from different parts of the state continue to emerge. The total number of confirmed cases in Maharashtra is 97,648 and death toll nears 3500 mark.
For more than 5 continuous days, Tamil Nadu has been reporting the second highest new cases. On Thursday, 1,875 new infections were detected in the state. The total number of cases in Tamil Nadu rose to 38,716. The deaths reported have been comparatively lower than its counterparts with 349 fatalities recorded so far.
Delhi continued to add over 1,8 cases even on Thursday. The total number of coronavirus cases in the national capital rose to 34,687. There were 20,871 active coronavirus patients in Delhi, second highest in India after Maharashtra.
Uttar Pradesh jumped to 5th worst hit state on Thursday. Reported atleast 480 new cases of coronavirus, increasing the state’s tally to 12,088. Kanpur, with 48 cases of Covid-19, reported maximum infections in the state, followed by 41 in Noida.
Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh, the state which showed a great response fighting covid19 in the initial days has now succumbed to the virus. As on Thursday, Chhattisgarh nears the mark of 1400 coronavirus cases after recording 47 fresh cases in 24 hours. As many as 6 deaths has been registered in the state.
Globally, Over 7.4 Million coronavirus cases have been recorded . The causalities from COVID-19 increased to 4.1 lakh worldwide. The United States was the worst affected by coronavirus pandemic. The US confirmed more than 2 Million cases since the outbreak. Coronavirus killed 1.20 lakh people in America alone. India reported the fifth highest coronavirus cases in the world.
