New Delhi: On Monday, there were protests in both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha. Piyush Goyal, a BJP leader and Leader of the House, requested a discussion on the Manipur crisis. The government’s plan to introduce an ordinance on the National Capital Territory (NCT) Amendment in the Lok Sabha added tension leading to opposition from Aam Aadmi Party leaders who expressed their objections outside of Parliament.
As the Monsoon Session of Parliament resumes today at 11 am, we can expect scenes to be those of the week. The Opposition is likely to continue their protests accusing the Narendra Modi government of mishandling the Manipur crisis. On the hand, the government will argue that the Opposition is obstructing proceedings for their own narrow political motives. Amidst this chaos, several important Bills are expected to be passed.
Since it started on July 20th, disruptions have plagued this Monsoon Session primarily due to Opposition demands for a statement from Prime Minister Modi regarding the Manipur issue within Parliament. The previous week they even tabled a no-confidence motion aimed at pressuring PM Modi to address this crisis during proceedings. Now all eyes are on the Speaker who will schedule a date and time for a discussion and vote, on this motion.
The deadlock has been obstructing the operation of the Parliament. Impacting the advancement of crucial legislative tasks. With the stalemate, there are increasing apprehensions, about the productivity and efficacy of the procedures.
Amidst these conflicts the main priority is to find a solution and create an environment that encourages debates and discussions. The situation in Manipur and the larger problems our nation faces demand attention. It is crucial for all parties involved to engage in conversations and work together to ensure the Parliament functions smoothly, upholding the values it represents.
