The Congress today pounced on the BJP after its MPS Nishikant Dubey and Dinesh Sharma backed off from comments on the Supreme Court and the Chief Justice of India they had made in Lok Sabha. Instead, the opposition called the BJP’s attempt to wash its hands over the remarks wrought to be superficial and insincere.

Congress General Secretary in-charge of Communications, Jairam Ramesh, took to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to criticise BJP President J.P. Nadda, calling his response mere “damage control.” “The distancing of the outgoing BJP President from the atrocious remarks made by two BJP MPs on the Chief Justice of India is only minor,” said Ramesh. “These are habitual offenders when it comes to hate speech and are used by the G2 (the Modi and Shah) whenever they want to assault communities and institutions, and individuals.”

Further slamming the BJP, Ramesh also questioned when the ruling party would speak out about other controversial statements given by other people in top constitutional positions close to the ruling party. But the outgoing BJP President remains totally silent in equal measure when one of the very distinguished appointees he made to a high constitutional position, a minister, continually makes equally unacceptable remarks on the judiciary. “What does he have to say about those remarks?” He asked whether the BJP subscribes to them.

Ramesh said Nadda’s explanation on the recent controversy is politically motivated and insincere, and said that it will fool no one. A jab referring to past remarks mocking political double standards, this is Entire Political Science reflecting itself, as Entire Political Hypocrisy.

Congress’s strong response underscores the rising political tensions over the judiciary’s role and the BJP’s approach to criticism from within its ranks.
