New Delhi: The Congress, with its 99 seats in the Lok Sabha and the performance of the INDIA bloc in the general season, the Congress Party is likely to stake claim to the leadership of the opposition in the parliament. Demand for Rahul Gandhi to take up the distinguished position is increasing. In a statement on X, Congress MP-elect Manickam Tagore said that the former party president should take the Congress to the lower house.

”I fought the polls under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi. He should be the Congress’s prime ministerial candidate for the Lok Sabha. I wish other elected Congress MPs felt the same. Let them make a wait for the Congress Parliamentary Party’s decision. We are a democratic party.” Tagore, who won from Virudhunagar in Tamil Nadu, said. Lok Sabha Outgoing MP & Congress Rajya Sabha MP Vivek Tankha also shared similar views and said, “Rahul ji led the campaign. He is bound to fought for the post of the leader of the Lok Sabha parliamentary party. @RahulGandhi cannot decide everything. Some decisions have to be made by party leaders / MPs. It will definitely be unanimous”.

An opposition Congress leader, Karti Chidambaram of East Godavari, said, “I foresee that this slot would go to the party. Only I feel Rahul Gandhi himself should become the Leader of Opposition on behalf of Congress.”

Although Rahul Gandhi had stated his resignation as the party president after the poor show of the party in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he is in demand by the party to give a positive account in the 2024 elections. During Shiv Sena (UBT), MP Sanjay Raut said, “If Rahul Gandhi is willing to lead, why would we object? He has already demonstrated himself to be a national leader a number of times already. Honestly, he is perhaps one of the most popular leaders that we know. Definitely, ourselves and everyone else wants and likes him. I don’t think there’s any grudge or any disagreement within the alliance,” as stated.
