New Delhi: With the second leg of the Budget Session of Parliament underway, the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha resumed at 11 am on Wednesday, March 23rd. Meanwhile, Congress MPs on Wednesday registered their protest at the Gandhi statue in Parliament, over the increase in the prices of LPG cylinders and petrol & diesel.
On Tuesday, a ruckus had broken out over the hike in fuel prices, as Opposition parties staged a walkout from Lok Sabha in protest. Congress MP Manickam Tagore has given an Adjournment Motion notice in Lok Sabha, to discuss the last date fixed by the government for linking PAN with the Aadhaar card, which is March 31st.
In Lok Sabha, leaders from Congress, DMK, TMC, NCP, JMM and Left parties among others staged a walkout demanding the immediate withdrawal of price hike of fuel and LPG. Economists expect the gradual fuel price increases to add up to anywhere between Rs9 to Rs12 per litre of diesel and petrol, which could go up to as much as Rs20 a litre if the average global crude oil price rises to $110-120.
