New Delhi: While the Congress-par challenged alliance known as INDIA has managed to get 232 Lok Sabha seats in the recently concluded general elections, the National Democratic Alliance or NDA has been limited to less than 300 seats. The Indian Congress party won 99 seats on its own.
At the meeting of CWC, Mallikarjun Kharge, the national president of Congress, opposed the BJP stand and congratulated the newly elected Congress members of the Lok Sabha, terming them as fighters in testing circumstances.
Kharge also praised Rahul Gandhi for taking several important questions, including the Constitution, inequality, employment, and social justice, among others, to the center stage. He credited this to Rahul Gandhi, who walked 4000 kilometers in the Bharat Jodo Yatra and covered 6600 km in the Bharat Jodon Nyay Yatra two years back. Such actions provided the party with the means of communicating with the people and feeling their sentiments to adapt the election campaign strategy.
A lot of special mention has to be given to Priyanka Gandhi, who actively campaigned in Amethi, Rae Bareli, and many other parts of the country. He also thanked his senior Congress colleagues for making his project a success as a team effort. He emphasized working experience and determination as key factors that might help overcome severe challenges.
Drawing attention to the outcome of the Bharat Jodo Yatra and Bharat Jodon Nyay Yatra, he said that the vote share and the seats of the Congress Party have vastly improved wherever these events took place. As expected, the party performed fairly well in Manipur, the home of the Nyay Yatra, where it emerged victorious in both seats. Besides, the Congress Party fared relatively well in parliamentary polls, particularly in some Northeastern states like Nagaland, Assam, and Meghalaya. In Maharashtra, for instance, it became the largest party in the state.
