After criticising Pakistan and terror groups in Malaysia, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has been thrust into a political storm during his “Operation Sindoor” tour. Although many praised his bold statements on India’s fight against terrorism, some within his own party knocked them.
Speaking to representatives from the Indian community and diplomats at the Indian Embassy in Panama, Tharoor assured everyone that the nation is resolute in tackling the problem of terrorism. He said that terrorist groups have recognised that their operations will have effects, underscoring, “Recently, terrorists have learned that actions have consequences.”
While some supported his tough view, the leader of Congress, Udit Raj, attacked Tharoor for it. Raj pointedly told Tharoor that he was the “supreme spokesperson” for the ruling BJP, hinting that his comments matched Prime Minister Modi’s much more than the party’s own leaders.’
“Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has become the BJP’s best PR man. What the BJP leaders don’t say in his favor, PM Modi himself does. Does he realize the actions of past governments? The government currently in power is claiming responsibility for the achievements of the Indian Armed Forces,” Raj argued.
Contained in the delegation are people from all political backgrounds, for instance, BJP’s Tejasvi Surya and Shashank Mani, JMM’s Sarfaraz Ahmad, TDP’s Harish, Sena’s Milind Deora and former US Ambassador Taranjit Sandhu. The team is needed to build India’s reputation internationally for its efforts against terrorism and to protect the nation.
